Street sweeping starts; don’t get towed

By EVA THOMAS/ Murphy News Service

If you plan on driving to campus, be cautious of where you park your car between now and the middle of November.

Minneapolis’ fall street cleaning starts today. Every street will be swept from curb to curb, and any cars parked on the streets between 7 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on the day the street is cleaned will be towed.

Approximately 24 hours before the street is to be cleaned, temporary “No Parking” signs will be posted. But a sweeping schedule can be found online, allowing you more time to prepare before the warning signs are put up.

The sweeping schedule can be found here, outlining Minneapolis neighborhoods that will be impacted. The University of Minnesota has its own detailed schedule, noting the day, week and status of the cleaning.

The University of Minnesota has other parking options to utilize during this time. Parking lot locations and rates can be found on the University of Minnesota’s parking and transportation site.

Public transportation is also an option to avoid the hassle of parking on campus. Visit the Metro Transit page to see routes and schedules in your area.

Look at the schedule and watch this video about street cleaning to ensure your car does not get towed. If it does get towed during this time, it will be taken to the City impound lot, and you will charged a fee of $200 or more to retrieve it.

Park smart this street sweeping season to avoid losing big bucks.
