Fashion innovator, punk rocker, and “gender outlaw” Novala Takemoto will debut his first clothing collection at “Full Fashion Panic” on Sept. 26 & 27 at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design.

The Japanese-born author, musician, and designer is considered a pioneer of the Lolita style of design — a trend that originated in Japan that is a modern take on Victorian and Rococo era garb.

The feminine inspiration of this style is not foreign to Takemoto. The designer is a self proclaimed heterosexual male who dresses and writes in a way that embraces his inner “otome,” or young maiden in Japanese.

The show, “Novalar’s,” will feature gothic inspired designs. It will also feature Takemoto’s musical talent as he will be playing guitar during the runway show.

True to his writing roots, Takemoto is offering a prologue to the fashion show to further explain the “Lolita”  style and subculture as well as address how he complicates gender expectations through fashion.

The event is SGMS: Mechademia Conference’s annual fashion show.

Tickets for both events are available at the door, but you can pre-order tickets for the fashion show here.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door.
